Inflexible Fools

Posted at Updated:

The hearth grows cold as the embers fade when the weaving is finished. Sling stones of time hurt yet Heimdall guides her with love across the Bifrost bridge.

It hurts to loose a pet when an Inflexible individual can not even check to see if a change can be made. My Dachsund, Squeeker who's 14+ years may have been saved if the individual had checked with the doc and switched the appointments. The earlier time may have been enough to get fluids into her and see what the problem was as the other dog only needed routine shots. I understand why some folks can't change gears and they do serve a function but they should never be a blockage to medical treament yet that is exactly what happened yesterday.

Where there is life, there is hope as the vet called back to tell me that they can squeeze her in early. The question is, can they save her or do we have to release her and end her suffering.

Update:
She started Seizing before we could get her to the doc and is now gone. Could they have saved her? Don't know and nothing we can do about it now. She's in Heimdall's and Hel's care and able to play in the Rainbow park with all of other companions that have gone ahead.

Lucky So Far

None of us have been infected and we haven't had a case in our town yet but we are seeing some changes due to the virus. The first is a lack of paper products in the stores - Toilet/Napkins/Paper Towels and Plates along with the removal of fresh produce from the stores. That I can understand and in fact agree with as one infected individual handling fresh produce could infect a whole bunch of people by contaminating things so we're avoiding fresh fruits and veggies for the time being. Another item that's run short is Rice and beans. Not sure why that's happened other then the fact they last so long without refrigeration and are easy to store long-term. Rice is better then Twinkies as it will easily last 50 years with simple storage methods. Just keep it dry. Dried beans don't last as long but they should last at least 10 years without special care other then keeping them dry like the rice. Good sources of food if things go to hell in a hand basket.

We keep several weeks of canned and dried food on hand due to earthquake possibilities - Did you hear about the 5.7 Quake that hit the Salt Lake City Utah region on March 18, 2020? Were I live, we've had a pair of 6.7+ quakes in the last 30 years though we've been lucky and not had major damage to our home or utilities knocked out for long periods of time - so as stated, we've been lucky.

Just reread Raven Soul's blog about their health and how they can no longer write. Discouraging and disapointing to say the least but that's life isn't it.

Am I Blind?

Just read an interesting blog post by the BlindMan about his vision. Seems that I either match or see worse then he does since he can simply use a 200% magnification to read things. That doesn't work for me though if I had a larger monitor, I might be able to get away with it.

Currently, I'm at a +9 correction for my glasses and once I hit the +10 level, I'll be at the limits of the materials and will finally be classified as blind even with my glasses. Right now though, I'm only funtcionally blind w/o them, so I can still drive and such but due to diabetes, my vision changes quickly every year so it's not going to be to much longer before that happens.

I don't care about scores

I've seen several blogs about the changes in the scoring system where people are complaining and I just have to laugh at them. Sure I have scoring enabled on my stories by you know what, I don't care what they are as I don't write for anyone but myself so it's funny to see the many complaints about the scoring system.

As an author, what I do like is getting feedback that helps me craft a better story. That is more important then any score though I do look at the downloads results - not sure how many have finished reading them but at least I know someone has looked at the first page.
