Red woke up around 9am.
He logged into the story site that he frequently checked for new erotic literature.
He never paid for a membership to support the cost of running the site, or contributed stories. "Someone else can do that!"
Then he angrily started clicking around the site, and complained about how there weren't many new stories. He chose a story without reading the story codes or description. "Why would I waste time doing that?" he asked the empty room, as he started skimming the story.
The author was new to SOL. It was their first time posting a story. They spent hours working on this first chapter. It was part of a 25 chapter story arc that they wanted to share. They received no compensation for their work other than the satisfaction of knowing they were providing something of value and giving back to the community.
Their editor had spent hours checking over the story, offering advice, and helping the new author.
The author carefully chose all the relevant codes and offered a detailed description of the story, which was about Arthur Morgan's continuing adventures in the Red Dead Redemption Video Game world of the late 1890s. The codes implied this would be a raunchy story full of hot sex, and began with Arthur meeting his long lost love Mary Linton.
She's now a prostitute working in the decadent saloons of Saint-Denis. The hand crafted story is well-researched and references many of the events in the video game that led to the fallen angel's new career.
Red bangs his fist on the keyboard.
"I didn't come on here to read stories about VIDYA GAMES!! THIS ISN'T MY CUP OF TEA!! 6/10" he down votes AND comments based on the first chapter. "This isn't even a story!! It's just the start of one!!!"
Red feels safe in the knowledge that he is providing a valuable service to burgeoning new authors by tearing their new story a second a-hole, and downvoting them to discourage them from continuing.
Red goes to the next new story. Instead of waiting until chapter seven to get a good idea of what this one was about, he down votes it immediately because he doesn't like that author.
"He never writes anything that I like! So I will punish him by giving him a ONE!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!" he says to the empty room with his flaccid penis in his hand.
"Now, when new people come to the site and they are looking for a quality story, they will see this author's hard work, and think it must be terrible," he laughs nefariously over the power he feels he has. He also downvotes it with his second account he created specifically to downvote stories with.
It doesn't matter to Red that voting should really be objective based on the quality of the story. He doesn't like stories that involve fetishes that aren't his particular kink, and wants them to all die a death of misery.
It would be easy for him to avoid them, but Red doesn't bother with story codes. "Those are for wussies," he laments.
He now feels the need to go to each story on the site that contains fetishes that make him uncomfortable and down vote them.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Blue is reading a story he enjoyed and not bitching about it, because he fucking looked for the story codes that he likes, and read the description first.
Don't be Red, get Blown.
EDIT:
Today, I saw a guy write that comment "NOT MY CUP OF TEA 6/10" on an author's first chapter of their first story posted on SOL, and it sort of fired me up.
It seemed like he was just trying to encourage the author to stop, when it was obvious that the guy didn't read the codes or he would have known it wasn't his "cup of tea". They wrote precisely what they described in the codes/story description.
In addition, not bagging on free users who use the site without contributing stories. It's an option. It was more the fact that he expects so much for something he pays nothing for that stuck in my craw.
Pay nothing, Do nothing, expect nothing.
Most free users are cool people, and not like Red at all.
